By train or by plane?
If you arrive by train:
There are two railway stations in Basel: one is Bahnhof SBB and the other is Badischer Bahnhof. From both stations you may take a tramway to reach the department in approx. 15 minutes. Please note that tickets for the tramway have to be bought from vending machines BEFORE getting on the tramway. Vending machines are installed at every tram stop.
From Bahnhof SBB:
At the station take the exit Centralbahnplatz, which is the square in front of the main entrance. From there take tramway No. 2 (direction Messe/Eglisee) and get off at stop Kunstmuseum. At the stop Kunstmuseum cross the street and turn left into Rittergasse. After 200 metres you will arrive at the square Münsterplatz; continue in the same direction, take street Augustinergasse and you will finally arrive at the Rheinsprung.
From Badischer Bahnhof:
From the tramway stop Badischer Bahnhof you may either take tramway No. 2 (direction Bahnhof SBB) and get off at stop Kunstmuseum. To your right will be the street Rittergasse which leads towards the square Münsterplatz. From there continue in the same direction, all through street Augustinergasse and you will finally arrive at the Rheinsprung. Or you may take tramway No. 6 (direction Allschwil) and get off at stop Schifflände. From there go back to the river Rhine (about 50m). The street Rheinsprung is then just in front of you climbing up the hill.
If you arrive by car:
Please note: there is NO parking space in the vicinity of the department! We recommend to use one of the car parks in the city (with parking fee !) and continue from there on foot. The closest car parks to the department are Storchen or Kantonsspital.
Please note also: to use swiss motor- or high-ways you need to purchase a sticker (the Vignette), which is available at the customs when you cross the border (40 SFR), or at any gas station.
Via motorway from Zürich:
Take exit City and follow the signs towards Johanniterbrücke. On this bridge cross the river Rhine and follow the signs towards the car parks either Kantonsspital or Storchen. From there it will take approximately 10 min on foot to the department.
To reach the Rheinsprung orient yourself towards the Rhine and the Middle Bridge (Mittlere Brücke). Just before reaching the bridge turn right into Rheinsprung, a narrow street climbing up the hill.
Via motorway from Germany:
Take the first exit after the border and follow the signs towards Johanniterbrücke.
If you arrive by plane:

The EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is located right outside the city of Basel. There you should take the exit to Switzerland ! From the airport to the railway station Bahnhof SBB runs a shuttle service (bus No. 50).
